I was thinking. If we want this community to come back, complaing about it is just having the opposite effect. A large part of the fun of this community many years ago was the fact that everyone was creating all the time, it encouraged an environment of creativity. Even little things like making short animations as birthday gifts and such to eachother, incorporating our art in any opportunity we have is what made it a fun place to be around. With everyone creating their own private communities or keeping to themselves, it doesn't really nourish an idea of community. There are tons of people who visit Hyuns Dojo but are dissuaded by what appears to be inactivity, the thing that doesn't make them want to post or work in the first place. We all need to create more, if people a large group of people mutually creating things and upping eachother, it will encourage them to do so as well. That's why Dojo Duels worked out well at its inception, seeing everyone else make and post duels made you want to be a part of it and show your own place. We need some sort of incentive to make our own independent work and share it with eachother, if nobody is willing to put in the effort to get the ball rolling I might take that privilege into my own hands.

Most people in an artistic field strives for a sense of identity, if there's other people around them doing the same thing that encourages it

If anyone is interested, I may be willing to host weekly challenges or something. No reward or requirements, just something broad for anyone interested to work off of

Personally, I'm not sure if cash incentives is the way to go about this as I see a lot recently. If a person is to only work for money, it shifts the priority to an individual gain rather than a social one. While it may sound selfish but I believe it's true, what encourages people, especially artists to create is to have a voice of their own and make something that stands out from their peers. If you animate with the intent of creating a better product than your peers rather than a monitary gain, that's what breeds new ideas

" With everyone creating their own private communities or keeping to themselves, it doesn't really nourish an idea of community."

Truth be told i really think this Black Division thing aint helping the Dojo. They're ripping the Dojo from its best people and now none of them post here anymore

maybe @tobanga , but idk maybe something like this was always an inevitable outcome. its possible kids have shorter attention spans nowadays generally-speaking, it might have something more to do with this instead of things like isolated animation groups

Regardless of what you and sareth talked about, i agree with everything you said. I feel like this community needs a few prominent figures to look up to again. I don't know the exact principles behind it but that always brought people together. When everyone wanted to be Resh, Guz, Franco, or just the Dojo Partners in general. We still have REALLY good animators on this site, but none that everyone looks up to. Maybe Gildedguy, but not to the extend as the previously mentioned one's.

That being said, to bring it back to your point: That also means that every one of us can become that someone. I think with enough motivation and dedication all of us can be THAT animator.

I’m with septagon. I think something that we really need is more people for beginners to look up to, and if we can come together more as a community I think we can make that happen. If the good animators can make names for themselves, the beginners will look up to them and work to improve, and hopefully the community can thrive for a few more years.

@Septagon The idea is to become those people and I feel like the members of Black Division are in a prime place to try. @tobanga While I do agree with your point, you must consider that many of these members were already leaving or left Hyun's Dojo. In a way, we did encourage many to keep creating. Ultimately, I feel that all of us just need to post here more and comment on each other's posts, while it seems simple I feel like it would go a long way.

I think the difference between motives for making content for this community vs older communities is in the past the website itself was the primary place for the audience they want to reach. Stickpage and Fluidanims were relatively popular for their time, but now on Hyuns Dojo it's a little confusing as to what audience we're posting on this site for when there are other alternatives viable for a lot of the animators online now, along with the fact that the primary audience for Hyuns Dojo is their Youtube content. Also stickfigures aren't as popular as they used to be so rip. I think a way to promote a more active community is to connect the audience directly with the content creators. Ultimately that might mean people posting directly to Youtube instead of Hyunsdojo. I also feel like the forum format for online communities is becoming less relevant. Platforms like Discord are way better at maintaining activity IMO but in using Discord and Youtube it doesn't leave much room for the Hyuns Dojo website itself. Overall it seems like a pretty complicated problem to solve.

But also the mismanagement for Discord can make the platform less effective, I've found that sometimes Discords develop rooms and infrastructure for communities much bigger than what's needed and that ends up with people feeling like the community is dying which causes people to leave

What do you mean @tobanga i thought "Guilds" (is that what they are called) were great for the dojo because the organized people and then generally they would host collabs and get people to work on them at least once a year

@Septagon very inspiring words, we all have the chance to be an inspiration. @Awez Part of the issue may be that serious anims that we want to post to portal take a lot of time to get right. I mean i could post a practice/progress anim every week but only my friends and subscribers will see them correct? The average joe who visits the site isnt going to see our WIPS/Practs since we don't make 20 sec anims that we want to flood the portal with often. Also @Awez (as a semi-serious joke) eat ur words and make an animation going over ur original post and make it so inspiring that it does exactly what u want it to and so many people begin to look up to you and join the dojo and start animating. This site just needs some better organization, that would help too.
