So I guess I'm just going to ask a random question since I'm curious. When did you guys start animating and how consistent have you been with animating throughout the years (like did you do it everyday or is just an off and on kind of thing)? Do feel like you've made good enough progress toward what you want to shoot for? Feel free to ignore this as well.

i started in my math book 9 years ago in school lol, but my parents hated the idea of me being an artist/animator so they forced me to stop, but managed to go back at it since i loved it for some reason, and legit started animating in flash in 2013 but had more problems with parents so they took my pc away as another try to make me forget about animating, but after few years in 2015 i made it to college and moved out so i got my freedom and start animating more often and started improving, since i was basically animating everyday, trying to restore the lost years lol. so i would like to say i've been truly animating and improving and the past 3years, the years before it just lost in vain lmao.

I started doing stop motion animation when I was maybe 9 or 10, making clay movies that I still have on DVD's. The animations were crude and awful because I had to use a video camera to record, so it was a quick on and off tap for each frame of animation in recorded video, and a recording for each word to get the mouth to open when I said a word for "lip-syncing". Then I went on to discover that I could make paper frame animations, so I drew out each frame of animations with marker and printer paper, scanned them on my computer one by one which took hours, then compiled them in windows movie maker using my voice for sfx and dialogue etc. Then I went on later to find out there was a program for animating on the computer called Pivot in 2011, and I loved it so much that I animated in it until today, really, off and on. With flash and pivot being my two animation programs. It's just a hobby so I'm happy with where I've come with the time I've actually spent seriously animating.

I feel like I started around 2007. Used to do it everyday, but now I'm lucky if I can get a couple of hours in. I'm at a level I know I've wanted to reach for a while, but I want to produce more in that area to make sure of it.

Oh wow, glad so many people were interested in this. I really like seeing the progress of all the animators on this site and learning about how much you guys have done over the years. To answer my own questions, I started at around 2009 after being inspired by upcoming and established stick animators for awhile. For maybe a few years after that I continued animating trying to get better with every new animation and trying to see every fault of the old ones. I was disappointed and frustrated with a lot of my stuff back then because I knew it wasn't very good but wasn't quite sure what I was doing wrong. Probably near the time when fA closed down I started working on my drawing more and ended up doing Pokemon requests for a few years. Eventually I tried to take animation requests there too but I never really animated consistently. Around the time I got Flipnote studio randomly I also stumbled across the dojo and some old stick animators I used to see around and it inspired me to try to animate more. I've been here lazing about ever since.

Also @Stickly stopmotion sounds pretty complicated or at least really involved. Have you ever considered trying it again? And even though animating is mostly a hobby for you, you seem to have absorbed the principles of it extremely well.

Oops, pressed enter. Since forever. Consistency is once in a blue moon when the planets align in my favor. Only getting worse every time I try. Yup.

Art and occasional animation in flash for 10/11 years (started in middle school), but it's beyond the most boring thing I can think of so I barely do it even when I have the time. It's not boring because I'm too good or too bad at it, idk. I want to create but I really don't want I've never had progress goals. There's rare stuff I find fun that I gotta learn to latch on to

I guess i started seriously around 2013, got flash in 2011 but really didnt do much except draw little cartoons. My progress is on and off, i animate intensively for a week maybe and then months may go by where i dont do anything. School keeps me busy and my parents aren't that fond of my hobby either. As for confidence, i believe i have a long way to go and lots to learn and i have to be confident in my abilities to absorb knowledge to progress so yeah :)

1st discovered Flipnotes in I think around 2007, I did my 1st anim Ninja on a friend's DS, b/c I didnt have my own. I'd done lil sticky flipbooks before but this changed my life. I did them a lot more often than I do, now; I am very off and on but sometimes I'll do a lot over a week, or if I do an anim for a project or for another person I'll focus to get it done ASAP. I've started doing drawings and animating them and that takes less time so if I do those ill get it done ASAP.
