Rant.
I wish I came here five years earlier. I have these two really big ideas that I absolutely want to bring out before I die. One I've been sitting on for almost a year and the other for more than two. And I just know they will turn out great. Almost every day I have an idea for a practice or a combo or scene or whatever. I have all these people here on the dojo whose work I'm a fan of and who I also want to impress. But as it is I don't have the time to do any of that. I put a lot of hope into this winter because I thought that I'm gonna have more free time. But it turns out I'm blocked until after summer and I have no reason to believe it will get better then. I haven't animated in more than half a year and I still wont anytime soon. I keep telling myself not to give up and that I have to 'hang in there' and push myself more because that's what got me to where I am today. But all that does is make me waste time lurking the dojo and use up a lot of my daily mental capacity. Most of all it's just so frustrating

Dude im in that exact same position, I wanna bust out animations and projects all day if I could but I just cant. Just like you said, pull through, stay in there, the dojo and animating will be around for a very long time and one day your time will come!

I also feel like you. I mean, i'm not as old as you but I'm currently a student at finals period. It's way too stressful to actually bring out animations and enjoy life, as well as in my country i'm gonna have to join the millitary for 3 years which means I'll probably barely animate in those 3 years, probably just suffer. but I hope that one day i'll have enough free time to do so. I wish I was here five years earlier, simply because the community felt more alive. I'm not sure if we are growing or dying, but even if it was smaller back then it just felt better. You could go ahead and idolize characters like Yoyo or whatever, and simply making an animation would get you a fair bit of recognition, and then newcomers would consequentaly idolize you too. I know people say to not impress anyone but yourself, but really, that's why I animate in the first place. I want others to view my work and be amazed. Sadly the cold hard truth that hit me is that animating in fullbody is too tough for people to care about you, and animating in stickfigures would only give you a fair bit of attention if you direct it to a certain audience. But to be honest, I don't really care as long as I do get better. I'm kinda derailing off topic here, sorry. When people rant I kinda start ranting as well. If I may ask, what exactly is keeping you from animating?

emm...everytime you feel like you are wasting time just go do something productive instead, i call bs that you don't have time for anything, you definitely do have time it's just you don't want to put that time into anything, me right now instead of typing this msg i coulda animate 15 glorious frames and say to myself that i did something today. But no i gonna go rant with you as well and prove to myself that i worthless...
Side note: i work 12 hours a day, sometimes more and i still find time to animate. Right now i working on that mass collab part for SorryH.

Yea that sounds better.

Just go animate.

@LaTrancheDePain too soon <3

@IAmTheOcelot that's really sad to hear...but don't worry, everyone i know who went there said it was the best time of their life, and you'll probably forget about us for that time :P

@HintHunter what you say works for small things like practices or simple collabs, but not on meaningfull projects. It's not as easy as scribbling something on 15 frames, and you'll be distracted for a long time before and after that for very little process.

Interestingly enough a youtuber I've been following made a video yesterday saying something along the lines of 'when you have a lot of income and time, then making content as expression part of you will fail. Because if you're not breaking a sweat then you're not creating something new'. Think of it what you want

Hey to the new peeps, for some advice on workflow and just remain focus all together I borrowed a concept from @Bepler . Whether it be practice or not try setting a goal and work on 5 seconds of an animation, just 5 whole seconds. I know it's not a lot but if I can just complete 5 seconds worth of animation then I'm perfectly fine with that and that itself is pretty fulfilling. Keep doing that everyday and boom you got a fully finished animation. Start off small when it comes to that an not overwhelm yourself with it.

@Crylex has a solid point as well and is summarized nicely what future people might say, "don't work to impress anyone but yourself man".

Best of luck!!

sometimes I keep going just off 1 second even. Bite sized chunks are the only way anyone can do anything.
